Joy. We are designed for it. We live our entire lives in search of it. Joy Starts Here takes a closer look at joy as a critical, relational component to restoring hope and changing communities. Learn how predators destroy community and how to have a tender heart towards weakness. Joy Starts Here is for people who feel stuck and do not know how to start moving towards relational wholeness.
In this 10-week class, you will learn to build joy and shalom through readings and interactive lessons. Joy Starts Here teaches how to interact with God so you can see yourself and others as he does, exploring pathways to biblical joy and strengthening your resilience for dealing with life’s challenges.

Grace Buchanan moved to Burke, Virginia in June 2020 at the height of covid, in order to help out with a new grandson. In seeking fellowship after the move, Grace found HCI, much to her unbounded delight. Daily Connect allowed Grace to form new friendships and grow close to believers while practicing all the Life Model/Thrive elements and skills. Grace learned to host Zoom meetings through Daily Connect. She and her husband joined Truro Anglican church and lead a community group there.
After receiving and getting certified in (Mashah) inner healing ministry over the last 20 years, Grace discovered HeartSync through Betsy Stalcup and immediately started both receiving and training to share HeartSync. Grace quickly joined the Leadership Development group at HCI. Because of moving and grieving the loss of 40 years of relationships in the Body of Christ in NJ/PA, Facing Life’s Losses was profoundly helpful to Grace. Forming and Restarting were also extremely life giving. In the spring, Grace started facilitating a small group of three people in Facing Life’s Losses. She soon learned that they needed to practice joy skills, and that led her to want to offer Joy Starts Here to a larger group.
Grace always loved Jesus but met Jesus more personally at 14. She was baptized in the Holy Spirit around 1972. She worked as a teacher in both public and private schools over the course of 34 years, teaching reading, history, English, piano, Bible, and Sunday school. She worked with children with special needs and their families. For a few years Grace served as executive director of her county chapter of Literacy Volunteers of America. As part of her inner healing and parenting journey, Grace got an MS in Christian Counseling. She loves intercession, facilitating inner healing, oil painting, children’s literature, her wonderful husband Scott, grandparenting three children, taking care of her home, walking, camping, growing flowers and herbs, but most of all, JESUS who has been healing her broken heart for 50 years.
