About Testimonials

I have enjoyed the Leadership Development journey because of the gentle learning that takes place. I love that we share and have developed a common language. I love that some people are further ahead of me, some people are at my same pace and some are a bit behind. It’s a delightful way to learn with a mixed community. I have enjoyed having people to reach out to when I am in pain and I have enjoyed that they reach out to me when they are in pain—that is where true community is, and I love that we can come alongside each other by listening and loving each other well. The HCI community is and has been a lovely place for me to learn to listen and to love well with like-minded followers of Jesus. – Cindy, from North Carolina

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime with our Leadership Development program. New groups, of 8-12 men and women, form each January and journey through a transformative two-year course together. As they engage with the lessons and share life together each week, participants form life-giving community and experience transformation towards Christlikeness. This program includes training in spiritual formation, listening, hearing from God using the Immanuel Approach, training in relational maturity and facing life's losses. As we see the course through to completion we form relational bonds with fellow travelers. At the end, we hope each attendee will have at least two trusted people they can turn to during hard times, people who can listen with a caring heart and help us hear from God.

In the first year, participants embark on a journey of profound healing and connection by engaging in three foundational modules: David Takle’s Forming, Equipping Ministries Listening for Heaven’s Sake and HCI’s Immanuel Prayer Training. In Forming, participants are introduced to spiritual formation and learn how to align the sails of their boat with the wind of the Holy Spirit so they can move under the Spirit’s power rather than slavishly row on their own. In Listening, we learn how to be healthy helpers to those around us, as we practice providing supportive listening to others while avoiding becoming anxious or overly involved. In the third module, attendees will partake in an immersive 12 trainings on the Immanuel Approach, learning how to connect reliably with the Lord and interact with him as well as the tools necessary to guide others in their spiritual journeys. Discover additional information about each of these classes below.

Those who complete year one, will be invited to continue with the second year of Leadership Development. In year two we hone our Immanuel Approach skills through practice, engage with HCI’s Understanding Relational Maturity and Facing Life’s Losses workbooks. You will be with the same group of community and leaders during the second year. The life-giving culture you experienced in year one will deepen as we grow stronger roots with our compassionate Creator.

Through Leadership Development, I have had the opportunity to walk closer to Jesus and fellow sojourners through specific course work. The lesson sequence allows for heartfelt connection to grow among us as we remember who we are in Christ, learn how to validate and attune with each other, experience God's presence and heart toward us, develop maturity skills, and seek healing for our losses and pain. Our online community has a sense of belonging, safety, and compassion. I am grateful. -Sue, from Tennessee

I have greatly enjoyed HCI's Leadership Development! The content for each topic has been very valuable in my growth as a follower of Jesus and as a facilitator of groups. The leadership has been very professional, informative, and interesting each week we meet. It is very fun and rewarding to connect with everyone within the group during our breakout sessions as we get to know each other better. I am definitely planning on continuing with HCI's programs. Very grateful for this ministry! – Patricia, from Maryland

Classes

  • Forming, by David Takle (January 13th - March 31st)

Forming is a fresh, life-giving approach to spiritual growth and restoration that may be very different from what you have tried before. Instead of relying on your willpower and self-effort to bring about change in your life, we help you build a relationship with God that has enough substance to change you from the inside out. Forming is for people who want to grow in their spiritual maturity by engaging at deeper levels with God.

In this 12-week class, you will learn to engage with God and live from your true heart. Instead of striving to go, go, go and do, do, do you will learn how to align our sails with the Holy Spirit so that we engage with God to change the direction of our hearts so that we can go places we never could get to by rowing alone. In Forming, you will engage with Scripture, your past and present experiences, and your emotions in healthy ways to reveal truths you may not realize are there.

  • Listening for Heaven’s Sake, by Equipping Ministries International (April 7th - May 26th)

In Listening you will learn how to respond to others in ways that help the person solve their own problems—so you don’t have to! The skills you develop will help you know yourself better as well as improve all your relationships. In this 12-week class, you will learn how to:

o   Build deeper understanding and more respect in every relationship

o   Break eight bad habits that lead to frustration, misunderstanding and conflict

o   Recognize who owns the problem

o   Be genuinely caring and compassionate with everyone you meet without becoming anxious or overly involved

This class provides biblical insight, practical equipping, and hands-on coaching to help you learn your role in helping others.

In addition, we will be doing exercises each week to help rewire our brains so we can live in joy and shalom, in closer connection with the Lord.  We hope you’ll join us as we learn together how to grow more and more in healthy relationships with ourselves, God, and others.

  • Immanuel Approach Training, by Betsy Stalcup (September 1st - November 17th)

Step by step we will work towards developing an interactive relationship with Jesus using the Immanuel Approach. Our end goal through this 12-week class is to develop a secure attachment to Jesus, one that will undergird all of life and enable us to trust him with our whole hearts. Being able to focus on Jesus and interact with him about every aspect of life is the most important skill we can have for all of life.

We will also learn how to lead a simple Immanuel session for others and use the approach to engage with God for heart healing.
